Before this summer, only seven movies in history had grossed $1 billion or more at the domestic box office.

There’s now nine, between Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Deathly Hallows 2, the first film in the franchise to reach the milestone. Dark of the Moon will make it ten.

Through Sunday, Deathly Hallows has earned $1.01 billion, including a domestic total of $318.5 million and international cume of $690 million. The pic tied the record for the fastest climb to $1 billion, accomplishing the task in only 17 days.

Deathly Hallows 2 also is the top grossing film in Warner history worldwide.

“What’s truly astounding is that these kind of numbers are being achieved so early in the film’s release,” said Warners president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman, who announced the milestone with president of international distribution Veronikia Kwan-Rubinek.

Dark of the Moon’s worldwide cume rose to $983 million over the weekend, including a domestic total of $337.9 million and international haul of $645 million. As with Deathly Hallows 2, Dark of the Moon will become the first title in its respective franchise to hit $1 billion in global grosses.

Here’s how the billion dollar winners rank: Avatar ($2.8 billion), Titanic (1.8 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.11 billion), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($1.07 billion), Toy Story 3 ($1.06 billion), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (1.03 billion), Alice in Wonderland ($1.02 billion), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2  ($1.01 billion) and The Dark Knight ($1.00 billion).

I've Registered So When Can I Expect My “Welcome To Pottermore” Email?

So last night you were one of the lucky few that answered the Pottermore clue no. 1, found and clicked on the Magical Quill, registered, selected your username and received your validation email in which you click on it to finally complete the registration process. Congratulations! You did it! You will be one of the million to enter Pottermore early as a beta tester or early registrant.

I’m receiving several comments and people want more more clarification on when the early beta registrants or testers will actually get access to Pottermore. Now, I’m just taking most of this information off the Pottermore help section and summarizing it here for your convenience.

But the details for those that have already registered are as follows:

  • Pottermore has stated in on its help section of the blog that it will not be granting early access to Pottermore immediately.
  • Those that have completed the Magical Quill Challenge will have to sit it out, that is until the entire challenge is over which will be Aug 6th.
  • After this date, Aug. 6, you should start receiving your “Welcome” email that will grant you full access into Pottermore.

Now the important part, according to this article linked from Pottermore’s Twitter account, not everyone will be receiving their “Welcome to Pottermore” letter all at once. In fact, sadly for some, they will not be able to let everyone into the beta Pottermore all at once or at the same time. Some of us will could have to wait a couple of weeks before we receive our the much anticipated “Welcome” letter.

I’m sure the question many of us are asking is how will they decide who are the ones who will get in at the very beginning. There are two options that stick out right away as possibilities:

  1. The “Welcome” email will be sent based on a first come first serve basis.
  2. Or, they will randomly select people daily to enter that day’s quota of people who are allowed to enter for that day.

I’m sure there are other possibilities too, but not sure if we will ever know how the early beta testers selection process will work.

Since I registered and got in the only question that concerns me now is when can I be expecting my “Welcome” email from Pottermore. I hope it’s sometime in the following week. And, I hope you receive yours too.

Any comments on how you think they will select the registered early entry applicants? Your comments are always appreciated.

Discount Ticket Agency in Orlando Gears Up For Opening Day of Harry Potter Theme Park

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) May 24, 2010

Ticket sales have been brisk for the upcoming opening of the most eagerly awaited theme park in recent memory. ?The Wizarding World of Harry Potter? will celebrate its grand opening within the Islands of Adventure theme park on June 18, and the staff at The Official Ticket Center in Orlando, in between processing ticket sales, has been quizzing each other about Hogwarts Castle, the Village of Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest in anticipation of the event.

?I walked into the office the other day and heard the staff talking about toadflax, goutwort and grommel,? said Patrick Pulliam, owner of The Official Ticket Center, a family owned and operated business which sells discounted Disney tickets, passes and upgrades to Universal Studios, Walt Disney World and other area theme parks. ?Fortunately, I?m a huge fan, so I knew all the references,? he added.

?It?s a very exciting time for Harry Potter fans,? said Pulliam. ?We?ve been talking with longstanding customers and helping first-time customers choose the best ticket packages so they?ll get the best value for their dollar and ensure that they?ll have plenty of time to visit the new theme park.?

The Harry Potter books have sold over 400 million copies and have been translated into almost 70 languages. Pulliam estimates his company has already sold tens of thousands of tickets in both individual sales and bundled packages that include entry into Universal Studios, where the Harry Potter fictional world is painstakingly recreated through architecture, rides, shops and restaurants.

The most popular ticket package for individuals, couples and families eager to visit the new Harry Potter theme park as well as other Disney attractions is The Walt Disney World Magic Your Way Base Ticket with Hopping, which allows admission on the same days to Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Universal Studios. Tickets are good for either two, three or four days, depending on the package selected.

The Official Ticket Center is also running a pre-arrival Universal Studios Orlando online ticket special, where visitors can purchase a Universal 2 or 3 Day Park to Park Ticket and receive one day free. The special also includes a bonus offer where kids receive an ?eat free? card with the purchase of a multi-day Universal Studios children?s ticket.

Universal Orlando Resort theme parks include Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.

Pulliam, who received a sneak peak tour of the theme park, said it remains true to the look and feel of the blockbuster films. ?The Harry Potter story lends itself very well to a theme park,? he said. ?You can immediately identify some of the most famous locations. A theme park has various sections, or lands, devoted to telling a specific story. The lands contain all the physical elements support the story.?

For more information on the Harry Potter theme park, Disney?s Orlando attractions or other special ticket options, visit http://www.officialticketcenter.com or call Pulliam at 1-877-406-4836.

JK Rowling Announces Pottermore | Animation Blog

The story of Harry Potter (as far as the 7 books are concerned) has come to a close with the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. While the MediaFreaks 3D Animation Blog has given an update on what’s keeping some the Hogwarts guys busy, there is still no definite clue as to what’s next for the franchise. If anything, fans were treated to a preview of the quiet family life Harry and Ginny will live in.

No one really knows what’s next for Harry Potter or for Hogwarts for that matter — except for its author J.K. Rowling.

But good news is on the horizon for Potterheads! J. K. Rowling has something up in her sleeve to keep all of you happy. See this image below…

This image is currently the front page (as of August 1, 2011) of the web site for Pottermore, a virtual reading experience for the Harry Potter mythology. All signs indicate that this is an upcoming website which will sell e-books and audio books of the seven Harry Potter books. It is also believed that there will be over 18,000 words of additional content and trivia about various settings and characters in the universe Rowling created. We’ll let the author J.K. Rowling explain the details to you. By the way, July 31 is her birthday. And also Harry Potter.

baby-flash-cards-2

Because of the birthday of J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter, the site will start to allow one million early bird registrants to enter the site early. Have you registered yet? You would have to endure the Magical Quill quest first before you become part of the first registrants.

The Magical Quill quest is dubbed with the tagline “7 Book. 7 Days. 7 Challenges.” Each day a Magical Quill clue will relate to a Harry Potter book. During the first day (July 31), the clue was about Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first book. The first Magical Quill clue was “How many owls are on the Eeylops Owl Emporium sign? Multiply by 49.”

If you are a Harry Potter geek or a good researcher, you’d know that the answer is 245. There were 5 breeds of owls in the Emporium sign. This answer can be found in the chapter “Diagon Alley” of the first book. And so this is how the game will go for seven days.

After the first clue was announced, the question post was already closed after two hours. That’s a lot of competitors, so good luck. We think even Darth Vader has joined the mob for the Magical Quill.

Jesus Christ and Harry Potter, Christian News

This month, the final Harry Potter film had the most successful opening weekend of any movie ever. Among the fans who lined up for the opening midnight showing were Christians, many of whom see striking similarities between the story of Jesus — with its sacrificial death, burial and resurrection — and the story of Harry Potter.

  • colson

But at least one atheist has also noticed these similarities, and he’s written a book about it. In the newly-released (and blasphemously-titled) Jesus Potter Harry Christ, Derek Murphy makes the case that J. K. Rowling — the author of the Harry Potter series — achieved her success by tapping into some of the deepest and most ancient longings of the human heart. These same longings, Murphy argues, compelled first-century pagans to construct what he calls “the Jesus myth.”

Murphy writes, “Jesus and Harry Potter are both…fictional…characters which incorporate classical (pagan) spirituality and religious ideology…I start by using the similarities between Jesus and Harry to raise the question, ‘how can Jesus be historical if Harry is fictional?’”

Murphey points to similarities between the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ virgin birth, His passion and His return from the grave with the myths of pagan idols like Isis, Sarapis, Horus and Apollo, Murphy hopes to convince his readers that Jesus — just like the gods of mythology — is fiction. In fact, he believes that Jesus is just an amalgam of history’s best myths.

Well, Murphy is certainly right in recognizing a common thread through pagan religious beliefs. As C. S. Lewis writes in Mere Christianity, the heathen religions are full of “…those queer stories…about a god who dies and comes to life again and, by his death, has somehow given new life to men.”

But what Murphy misses — and Lewis got — is the fact that the human longings for sacrifice, resurrection and redemption are stamped on our hearts for a reason: They point us straight to the God who stepped into history to fulfill them!

Like us on Facebook

In a letter to a friend, Lewis recounts a conversation he had with J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings — and a close colleague of Lewis.

“The story of Christ,” said Tolkien, “is simply a true myth: a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it really happened…The Pagan stories are God expressing Himself through the minds of poets, using such images as He found there, while Christianity is God expressing Himself through what we call ‘real things.’”

The fact is, Murphy appeals to the bad reasoning which skeptics of the church have used for years: that simply because cultures around the world tell stories which remind us of Christianity, Christianity itself must be just such a story.

But for Lewis and Tolkien, it was this universal fascination with the savior-god myth that made Christianity so convincing. To them, the historical fact of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus rouses our deepest longings in the same way as the tales of Isis, Horus — and even Harry Potter do. But unlike these stories, Christianity is true — the reality to which all of the best stories of history point.
