Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Every character has an important role to play whether in the start or in the end of a particular story. Harry Potter is one sequence in which every role is well defined and emphasised, where everyone is created for a purpose, and as soon as their objective is completed, they disappear or meet their demise.

Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is an important focus in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. His role throughout the story has been curious and questioning. He quite suddenly appears to fetch Harry from Privet Drive, at the start of the story, taking the liberty of taking him back to Hogwarts. Harry is quite concerned upon his act but later he discovers that it was just to take him on an errand in order to persuade an old Potions teacher, Horace Slughorn, to return to Hogwarts.

At first, Harry couldn’t understand his participation in the persuasion until the latter half of the story when he comes to know that the professor is withholding an important memory in his mind regarding Lord Voldemort, which Dumbledore wants to unravel.

At Hogwarts, Harry is asked to take private classes with Dumbledore in which he learns in detail about the past of Voldemort using the thoughts of other people that were crucial and extremely important.

All through the memories, Dumbledore tells every important aspect of Voldemort’s past to Harry and they both visit each place that he has been to, through Pensieve. Horace Slughorn retrieved a memory of the conversation between him and Lord Voldemort regarding gaining immortality by forming Horcruxes. Hence, Dumbledore in this part wants Harry to locate Horcruxes and destroy them before ultimately killing the soul residing in his body.

According to the legend, six Horcruxes were formed among which is the Marvolo Gaunt’s ring that Dumbledore wore on his charred hand. He damaged his own hand in order to destroy one of the Horcrux. In order to destroy more Horcruxes, Dumbledore and Harry set out to a seaside cave where they expect to find one saved in a locket. In order to retrieve the locket, a potion had to be drunk before.

Dumbledore dares to drink the potion. As he drinks it, he starts screaming and seems as if he is mentally tortured along with becoming weaker. As he shouts for water, Harry fills the bowl with water from the Inferi-lake, which are activated and attack Harry and try to drag him in the lake as well. However, Dumbledore regains his consciousness and produces a fire lasso around them, which repels the Inferi.

As they return to Hogwarts from the cave, they face Death Eaters storming into Dumbledore’s office as they force Draco Malfoy to kill him. In the meantime, he casts a body-binding spell on Harry hidden underneath the Invisibility cloak. When Malfoy is unable to kill Dumbledore, Snape appears on the site and casts the killing curse on Dumbledore. After Dumbledore’s death, the preparations for his funeral begin. He was buried in velvet shroud in white sarcophagus tomb near the lake.

Dumbledore stayed to be the only professor who was buried in the school grounds. A lot of people from across the wizard world visit Hogwarts to pay salutations and regards to him. Overall, the role of Dumbledore remains to be an amusing part of the complete tale for the great Harry Potter fans.

Don’t miss Dumbledore and all the other characters in the new Harry Potter film at your local cinema from 15th July 2009.

Want to Become a Wizard with Magic Powers?

There are many things in life that people can desire to become as a career or even a lifestyle. Over the last decade with the success of supernatural film franchises like Twilight and Harry Potter more and more individuals are looking to get into different things that are considered to be outside of a normal life. One such thing is the growing amount of those out there that want to become a wizard with magic powers.

So what exactly makes someone want to become a wizard with magic powers? Well it obviously would make someone’s life much easier and help deal with all the issues and stresses that come from the daily grind. Imagine how much easier common tasks such as dating and work would be if enchantments and potions could be used in those situations.

There really is no certain answer to give the person that has the want to become a wizard with magic powers. There is no Hogwarts Academy in real life for young children, tweens or teens to go to in order to learn such enchantments and skills. This does little to stop people from researching the issue and trying to discover such skills and academies to enroll at various ages.

My advice for those that want to become a wizard with magic powers is to get together with others of the same desires. Things are always better if done as a group regardless of the situation. As a group those involved can exchange potions and spells and everything else that fits into this sort of hobby for those individuals.

'Harry Potter' Looks to Shatter Box Office Record With $150M+

It’s already the biggest franchise in movie history, but the final Harry Potter film is poised to shatter more box office records when it opens this weekend.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will almost certainly break the record for biggest worldwide opener ever — the $236 million benchmark set by “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” two years ago.

With a little bit of magic, the Warner Bros. release may even best the $158.4 million “The Dark Knight” made in 2008, and become the biggest domestic debut in history.

As it stands, “Deathly Hallows: Part 2” is on pace to bank north of $150 million domestically, based on studio tracking. It will debut in 4,375 locations, many of which are already reporting sold-out midnight and 3 a.m. screenings.

Adding extra gravy to Warner Bros. box-office feast, many of those ticket prices will come at a premium, as “Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will hit 3,000 3D screens.

Internationally, Potter will premiere on 19,500 screens in 59 foreign territories such as Russia, Australia and Italy this weekend. It already earned $43.6 million in foreign territories on Wednesday.

“It’s nice to go out on top,” Dan Fellman, distribution president for Warner Bros., told TheWrap. “This is the greatest and largest franchise in the history of the motion picture business. It’s been a great ride.”

Parts 1 and 2 of “Deathly Hallows” were filmed at a cost of roughly $250 million, essentially giving Warner Bros. a license to print money off the profits it will bank over the upcoming weekend.

Yet saying goodbye to the series, which provided an anchor for the studio’s film slates nearly every year for the past decade, won’t be easy.

“It’s a very bittersweet time,” Fellman told TheWrap. “What’s made this movie so special is that many of the fans who went to see the first movie holding the hands of their moms are the same fans driving to midnight shows tonight. This is more than a motion picture, it’s a cultural phenomenon.”

While next summer’s  “The Dark Knight Rises” and upcoming Superman reboot “Man of Steel” have the potential to keep cash registers ringing at the studio, the absence of the bespectacled wizard will be keenly felt. It seems doubtful that author J.K. Rowling will relent and revisit Hogwarts to chart Potter’s progress into middle age or senility, giving Warner Bros. future opportunities to spin off fresh Potter films.

The Potter films have already made $6.37 billion worldwide, and bolstered by strong reviews and an uptick on 3D ticket prices, it seems likely that the final installment could add $1 billion to that take.

Though Potter seems likely to dominate this box-office Quidditch match, Walt Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh” is hoping to put a few points on the board, too.
