Harry Potter and the deathly hallows

They had fast become one of the best selling series of books in the world. She had already read the first three, and I was still a potter virgin. I must confess that I was always dubious, and had considered that a children’s book would be beneath me. Although I am no literary genius, I do consider myself to have base level reading skills slightly higher than our Neanderthal ancestors. But, so as to maintain the status quo, I decided to give them a go. You might say that I wanted to keep the magic in our relationship, and not suffer her wrath. If you know anything of the books, you will also know that voldemort himself is nothing to the fury of a woman scorned! I started, at the beginning and now have read all seven many times. Whether happy coincidence, or not, we are now happily married and we live in each other’s spell.

The author.

J.K. Rowling is one of the best known ‘rags to riches’ stories in the world. She is reputed to have come up with the idea of harry potter when waiting on a four hour delayed train. Let’s face it; we all know how that feels. It is true that we think of many things while waiting. I however have never had the fortune to come up with such an idea. The best idea I have ever formulated was to make maltesers covered in white chocolate. I somehow don’t see that being as profitable as harry potter, which is believed to have made J.K. 560 million pounds.

She is believed to have written the first book, Harry Potter and the philosopher’s stone, in a little cafe in Glasgow. It is widely thought that she went here, as she was renting an unheated flat at the time, and she was desperately seeking warmth. She herself admits that she was going through hard times, but would rather have us believe that she went here so she could walk for at time and get her daughter to fall asleep.

She released philosopher’s stone, and amazed by its success, the brand continued to evolve. The others began to flow, right up until Harry Potter and the deathly hallows was finally released in July 2007. It was the most anticipated book in the history of the modern world, and was spoilt only by one employee of Bloomsbury, her publishers, who took photos of every page and posted them on the net before the release. It is hard to believe that Harry Potter is now a global name. It is found in more homes than the bible, and rather unfortunately it’s probably read a lot more, too.

The plot.

There may be spoilers if you have not read the book.
Having now left Hogwarts, following the death of albus Dumbledore, harry Ron and Hermione set off in order to find the several parts of the dark lord soul. It was explained in the previous book, that if these parts of soul were found, and destroyed, Voldemort would become mortal. Centred on the relationships of our three heroes, the story develops quickly and we follow them on their quest. Times of happiness are scarce, amidst the darkness that echoes from their plight. We see, more people die; we see their successes and their failures. The story soon becomes intertwined with a new twist. That of the deathly hallows. Three objects that are believed to give the possessor control over death. The idea forms in harry’s mind that if he was to possess these, he would be able to conquer the dark lord. But harry must choose. Does he choose to go after voldemorts soul as Dumbledore wanted him to, or pursue the hallows?

Particular chapters of this book are remarkably emotional. These are generally my favourite ones. I remember dobby’s death in great detail, and it fills me with sadness to this day. What must you think of me to say such things of a children’s book, but I believe that the series gets dramatically darker in the last two outings. J.K.states that it would always go this way, but also believes that the readers would grow up with harry, meaning they would be emotionally stronger and able to accept them.
It all builds up to a climactic scene. It pans out, as we always knew it would. Good versus evil, Harry versus Voldemort. Bookies favourite has to be Voldy, but I have always been one for the outsider.

The style.

This book is definitely darker than anything she has written before. Writing that was once comical and light hearted is now incredibly descriptive. This detail is profound, and is much deeper than the other books. J.K. always said that she would be bringing the series to a complete conclusion. She wanted to bring finality to proceedings. That is indicative of her change of style for the seventh book. Every line oozes pain. Pain, I think that symbolizes her pain in bringing it all to an end. However this adds to the atmosphere of the scenes. Where before she concentrated on conversation, now she gives a lot more attention to the descriptive aspects. In essence, she is creating a world. A black and desperate world, with one hope. Harry. I think that this is why the scenes with harry and hid friends are written in a lighter way. So as to make him shine like a beacon amidst the apocalyptic background that is his world.
The book has much more meat on its bones than the others. It is tougher going, but it does not suffer for this. It is compelling, and I have often meant to read one chapter, and ended up reading three. Her greatest achievement was to create a whole world. Although the characters are strong, it is the detail of all the settings, and objects in Potters world that make it so amazing. Even now, if you ask J.K. a question on potter, even the most obscure one, she could answer instantly. She lived his life, and likened bringing it to an end to losing a part of herself. This is evident throughout the book, as she puts a lot more feeling into the book than ever before.

Conclusion.

I think, by now, you know that I like this book. However, I do have some criticisms. The first would be the fact that the profound change seems to coincide with the increasing success of the films. Although I am sure she would not agree, it seems that the book was written to be made into a film. For me this never is the best option. Books allow your imagination to wander, and your imagination will always be better than the staged antics of overpaid actors.
I also would suggest that the ending is a bit weak to be honest. The final chapter, which is an epilogue added in to show what becomes of our heroes after the climax, is rather woolly. I know that she did this to bring the story to a complete conclusion, but it is really surplus to requirements.
That said, the book is really well done. It has a good blend of humour and emotion, which can be enjoyed by all. Certainly it has been enjoyed by my good lady wife and me. I thank her to this day for bringing me into harry’s world, and putting me under his spell, as well as hers.

Recommended. G.

Final 'Harry Potter' Film Dangerous, Christian Scholar Warns

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, the final film in the popular series, still offers audiences some dangerous, forbidden occult content and false religion. So warns family advocate and Christian media scholar Dr. Ted Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film Television Commission.

“The final chapter to the Harry Potter stories, like the books, contains some surprisingly overt Christian allegorical elements,” Baehr admits, “but the movie version slightly changes the final confrontation between the hero and the villain to make it even more like a spectacular magical showdown between two sorcerers.”

Baehr, a theologian and Bible scholar, pointed out that the God of the Bible strongly condemns witchcraft and sorcery as evil and loathsome in Deuteronomy 18:10-13. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ affirms all of God’s law in Matthew 5:17 and other passages.

What’s more, Baehr adds, God commands people not to speak to or consult dead people, yet that is exactly what happens in the final Harry Potter movie. And yet another problem with the movie, Baehr says, is a line of dialogue suggesting that people who deserve it will be rewarded.

“This goes against Christian teaching. The Bible says that everyone has fallen short of the glory of God and that Jesus Christ died for our sins even though all people are undeserving, evil sinners,” Baehr says.

“This line of dialogue may seem to some people like a minor thing or an arcane theological point, but 50 years of research shows that people, especially impressionable children and teenagers, are influenced by what they see in movies and television. Every Christian—and every religious Jewish person for that matter—especially parents, teachers, clergy, artists and leaders in the mass media, has a duty to guard the hearts and minds of children and teenagers from false, evil ideas that may lead to destructive behavior. Theological ideas are just as important as moral and philosophical ones.”

Baehr advised parents, grandparents, teachers and religious leaders to warn children and teenagers about the dangers of seeing movies and television programs like the Harry Potter movies. As Baehr sees it, guardians should teach children to choose the good and reject the bad. Instead of Harry Potter, Baehr recommends the Chronicles of Narnia movies for younger children and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies for older children and teenagers.

“Better yet,” he says, “have your children read the books these movies are based on, including The Hobbit, which is the prequel to Lord of the Rings and is designed for younger children.”

Frodo Harry, a book Baehr co-wrote with film scholar Dr. Tom Snyder, exposes the dangers in the Harry Potter books and movies, including the books’ political attacks on conservative, middle-class values. Frodo Harry, shows how much more redemptive and biblically sound Lord of the Rings is compared to the Harry Potter books and movies.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1 – Reviews Mixed But Does it Matter?

While the Harry Potter movie won’t be released to the general public until November 19th (a whole week from today!), it premiered last night in London to mixed reviews from critics. Some called the movie too dark for a Harry Potter movie while others called it “gritty and intense.” While this may be two takes on the same thing, it may suggest the movie has a little less mainstream appeal than the previous parts in the Harry Potter series.

Both the Mail Online and This Is London gave the movie a very average 3 out of 5 stars, pointing to the movies darkness and bleakness as their main causes. This Is London said that the film had very little light relief to help moviegoers get a break from the intensity of the film.

However, both The Telegraph and The Express rated the movie a little more highly. The Express said the film was “gritty and intense” and says that despite the films focus on the three main characters of the Harry Potter series, the cast holds up well and does a great job of keeping the viewers interested without the colorful supporting cast. The Telegraph also says that the three main actors deserve praise for keeping the move interesting.

We suspect that some negative reviews won’t affect the die-hard Harry Potter fans who are destined to show up rain or shine for the first installment of the final movie. The second installment is due out next summer and will bring a sad end to a movie franchise that many have grown up with over the last decade.

Watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Online!

Oh my god!! I’ve been waiting for this movie to come out forever! I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I love all the books and movies; I can’t wait to see this and will definitely watch this movie in theaters this November! Wow I’m so excited haha! Anyways, yeah I’m really looking forward to when Harry, Ron, and Hermione go out looking for the Horcruxes and have to evade the Death Eaters and the other wizards who are after them, like the Malfoys and the Ministry. Watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows online by clicking this link or the image below to be taken to The-Movie-Vault.com!

Also, I’m looking forward to Ron and Hermione finally getting together after what seems like forever. I’m also looking forward to the fight that goes on in the Room of Requirement between Harry and Malfoy, and how Harry saves Draco’s life. But there’s also some things I wish didn’t have to happen, like one of the Weasley twins dying

that was so sad in the book, I hope the movie version is just as good or better. As much as I love Harry Potter, I think Daniel Radcliffe could work just a bit on his acting! I hope the actors are really good in this movie. I also wonder if the movie will show the final scene in the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Harry, Ron and Hermione are all grown up and have kids. I think it kind of sucks that the movie will be divided into two parts, but I guess this is better so that everything won’t end up all crammed into one long movie. Anyways, I can’t wait to watch it!
