Harry Potter – Live the Magic

Some of the best news to come to Harry Potter fans in months is that the new Harry Potter park in Orlando will be opening some time in spring of 2010. With the final Harry Potter novel being old news, and the new Harry Potter movie still being months away, news of the park’s opening couldn’t come at a better time.

Technically, the new Harry Potter theme park isn’t a theme park at all, but actually a section of an existing theme park. At one point in time, Disney was bidding on the rights to build the theme park, and because they didn’t make the cut, not much has been known about their plans. Perhaps they would have built a full park devoted to all things Potter, but more likely they would have done what Universal Orlando, who did win the bid for the park, is doing which is knocking out a section of one of their theme parks and retheming it to fit Harry’s World.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Orlando is taking up a section of Universal’s popular Islands of Adventure theme park.

While all of the theming is new, there will be only one new ride in the park section. Two former rides are merely getting an overhaul to fit in. Although the Flying Unicorn would have fit into Harry’s world, it is being rethemed as the Flight of the Hippogriff. Dueling Dragons is now Dragon Challenge, themed after the challenge in the Triwizard Cup Tournament. The new ride is top secret and is called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, or Forbidden Journey for short. It is known that the ride is built by Robocoaster, and that the height restriction is rather high for a theme park ride, but little else is known.

Universal will also be featuring Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade.

The shops in Hogsmeade are modeled after the Hogsmeade shops in the books, and will serve up products from the Weasley brothers, popular candy from the books, and even offer food and drink, including pumpkin juice and butterbeer, at the Three Broomsticks.

Unique to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando, interactive wands will be for sale for use in and out of the theme park. Details are not known, but wands are supposed to be priced between and for the most part, and perform different actions. Some special wands will even work outside of the theme park, including one that is rumored to function as a TV remote control. “Wandmakers” will be on hand to help your wand choose you, or you can simply choose a wand from the available stock.

There is so much to see and experience at the new park, but despite the wonderful theming and options, some Harry Potter fans may be disappointed at the lack of original rides. We’ll know for certain if the park is a hit or miss when it opens in Spring.

Lori Fox is excited to visit the new Harry Potter park in Universal Orlando this Spring. She hopes that the park will live up to it’s hype and has been building web pages and writing articles as an overflow of her excitement. New Short Story Writing Contest with $1,000 Prize by David Farland and East India Press

St. George, UT (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

Writers aged thirteen to ninety-nine from all countries are encouraged to enter the new East India Press Short Story Writing Contest. It is now open for submissions and ends March 1, 2012. There is no entry fee, and they accept fiction in any genre. The contest is sponsored by East India Press, specializing in publishing of books in multiple formats. New York Times Bestselling Author David Farland, with over fifty published novels, will be the first judge.

In addition to the cash prize, the winning story will also be published as the opening story in the new enhanced novel “Nightingale” by David Farland. The winner is further guaranteed serious consideration for a novel contract with East India Press. East India Press is known for publishing most novels in three formats, to match the tastes of virtually all readers.

The contest’s co-sponsor and first judge, David Farland, will personally edit the winning manuscript to prepare it for publishing and give the winning author valuable insights on preparing a story for market.

In addition to having over fifty novels published himself, Farland was once a writing professor for Brigham Young University and currently teaches intensive writing workshops, which are designed to get writer’s short stories and novels sold and published. He has taught and often times personally had a hand in discovering such writing talents as Stephenie Meyer, author of “Twilight,” Brandon Sanderson, author of “Mistborn” and the “Wheel of Time,” Brandon Mull, author of “Fablehaven,” Jessica Day George, author of “Dragon Slippers” and “Princess of the Midnight Ball”, James Dashner of “The Maze Runner,” John Brown of “Servant of a Dark God,” Eric Flint of “1632,” and dozens of other best selling new authors. His help on the winner’s story will be invaluable.

Farland is known for his work on “Star Wars,” “The Mummy,” and he’s even had input on the upcoming film “John Carter and the Princess of Mars,” as well as given JK Rowling’s publisher input on whether to push “Harry Potter.” Farland has had his fingers in the pies of many top books and movies, including video games such as the international #1 best seller “Brood Wars.” His current release is “Nightingale,” and the last book in bestselling “Runelords” series called “A Tale of Tales” is about to debut.

Farland started off as a prize writer himself, winning the Writers of the Future contest and the ensuing novel went on to win the Philip K. Dick Memorial Special Award for “Best Novel in the English Language.? He is still winning awards. Last year he won the Whitney Award for Best Novel of the Year.”

All this tells that Farland will be an excellent mentor and the chance of a lifetime for the contest winner. He is the perfect person to help the contest winner get a start in writing.

Equally as prestigous, other judges include Kevin J. Anderson, who has worked on such things as “Dune,” “The Saga of the Seven Suns,” “Terra Incognita,” “Star Wars,” “Star Challengers,” “Hellhole,” and too many works to mention, his current release being “Captain Nemo,” including the character of Jules Verne.

Judge Tracy Hickman again has too many books to mention, including “Starcraft: Speed of Darkness,” “Dragonlance,” “Bronze Canticles,” “Deathgate Cycle,” “Sovereign Stone,” “Rose of the Prophet” and “Darksword.” His current works are “Drakis Trilogy,” “Dragon’s Bard,” and “Dragonships.”

Though the story can be in any genre, David Farland has offered contest entrants the option of writing a story using the setting of his new book “Nightingale,” because the story will be published in the front of the book. This will allow the winner to piggyback on Farland’s success. As Farland is fond of saying, “Nobody makes it alone. We all help each other succeed.”

Best place for buying Harry Potter book

Article by Keelz Webstore

Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling. The books record the adventures of the teenager wizard Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story arc concerns Harry’s mission to overcome the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, whose plan is to conquer the wizarding world and conquer non-magical people, and who seeks to demolish all those who stand in his way, such as Harry’s parents.

Since the 30 June 1997 release of the first novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, (retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States) the books have gained huge popularity, critical approval and commercial success worldwide. The series has also had some share of criticism, including concern for the increasingly dark tone. As of June 2008, the book series has sold more than 400 million copies and has been translated into 67 languages, and the last four books have consecutively set records as the fastest-selling books in history.

A sequence of many genres, including fantasy and coming of age (with elements of mystery, thriller, and romance), it has many cultural meanings and references. According to Rowling, the main theme is death, although it is primarily considered to be a work of children’s literature. There are also many other themes in the series, such as love and prejudice.

The novels rotate around Harry Potter, an orphan who discovers at the age of eleven that he is a wizard, living within the ordinary world of non-magical or Muggle people. Wizard ability is inborn, but magical children like Harry are invited to attend Wizarding School to learn the magical skills necessary to succeed in the wizarding world. He becomes a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it is here that most of the events of the novels take place, as Harry develops through his adolescence, learning to overcome the harms that face him, magical, social and emotional, including normal teenage challenges such as friendships and exams, and the greater defy of preparing himself for the argument that lies ahead.

After the success of the films and books, Universal and Warner Brothers announced they would create “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” theme park at Universal Orlando in Florida. A soft opening was held at the end of March 2010, with the park opening again on 16 June 2010 for reserved guests. The park was officially opened to the public on 18 June 2010.

If your children like the Harry Potter books then they may also like going to Harry Potter summer camp!

Article by Clifford Blodgett

When incoming students arrived at camp for orientation last week, they might have been surprised to see young wizards roaming the campus with brooms in tow. Their eyes had not deceiving them. What they had been witnessing was part of the Harry Potter – Calling All Muggles camp. As part of its Summer Education Camp program, a university offered a four-day camp focusing on all issues Harry Potter for the very first time. The idea for the camp came from a master’s student at St. Joseph’s University plus a camp counselor, who mentioned she has been a devoted fan of the book series given that she was inside the sixth grade. Apparently the student loves the characters and everything about it. She also believes that every little thing inside the books are extremely done and feels that J.K. Rowling actually knows her audience nicely. Using the eighth and final installment of the “Harry Potter” movie series coming out July 15, she thought this summer could be the ideal time to center a camp around the popular fantasy series. Given that getting a counselor at camp, the last component came out – the seventh movie – she figured this could be a fantastic camp thought given that this can be a learning camp The camp was a hit with location youngsters, filling up with 21 campers age 8 to 12. The Harry Potter camp provided young children with an overview of the story, the chance to show off their understanding of the books, the chance to create a number of the food featured in the books plus a shot at playing the series’ signature game, Quidditch. She said she had created the camp so it would be accessible to kids without previous information of the series, but the campers turned out to be die-hard Potter fans like her. She thought she’d have to do much more of an overview, but they really knew their stuff, she said. They’ve all be labeled as professionals. The overview was pretty quick after which they got into intense trivia. A number of of the campers stated they were excited when they heard about the camp since they are huge fans of the series. “I’ve read all of the books a minimum of five times,” Abbey, 11, stated.”They’re my preferred books,” Danny, 11, stated.

The camp began July five with campers performing an herbology lesson within the campus’ gardens, whilst they created a number of the novels’ creative concoctions the next day. They created all the foods from the books. Campers produced pumpkin juice, butterbeer and licorice wands along with competing in a challenge to make one of the most creative Harry Potter-inspired cupcake. Danny mentioned creating butterbeer – a combination of cream soda, butterscotch soda, butterscotch syrup and ice – was one of his preferred parts of camp. “It was truly very good,” he stated. On Thursday, the campers – who had been divided into four groups named soon after the houses inside the series – competed in a treasure hunt, whilst the camp wrapped up with a Tri-Wizard Tournament. Within the tournament, the teams had to compete in trivia, locate clues and complete a relay race. Abbey – who was component of the winning Gryffindor Home – mentioned the Tri-Wizard Tournament was her favorite activity. Every afternoon, the campers played Quidditch, in which broom-riding players make an effort to get balls through ring-shaped hoops The campers all loved Quidditch and get truly competitive. The campers also finished up each day by watching the most current movie in the series. Everyone stated they enjoyed the chance to understand much more about the Harry Potter universe and spend time with fans like themselves.”It’s been truly fun,” Abbey stated. “It’s cool,” Danny said. “I didn’t believe there’d be so many people who like Harry Potter.”
