Tech Support: 'Apes' and 'Deathly Hallows' lead a diverse slate of contenders
Another extremely likely nominee, and probably the apes' biggest challenger for the win, is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” It is true that only two of this film's seven predecessors managed nominations in this category.

Daniel Radcliffe Totally Lives in Amy Poehler's Building (Video

Daniel Radcliffe, the 21-year-old star of the world’s most popular film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Gallows — Part 2,” revealed on Monday’s edition of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” that he lives in the same building as Amy Poehler and that he recently confronted the Emmy-nominated “Parks and Recreation” star in their lobby like the many giggling schoolgirls who have approached him over the years.

“I just had to lean over and say, ‘I’ve got to tell you, I’m a massive fan of ‘The Mighty B!,’ which is this cartoon that like one person here knows,” recalled Radcliffe, referring to Poehler’s Nickelodeon cartoon. “I’m scared to admit that that’s perhaps not the one thing that she would have liked me to pick out of her catalogue of work.”

He also said he watched three hours of cartoons on Monday.

Later, Radcliffe answered some questions put to him by a real-life Quidditch team, including one poor player’s query, “Do you feel responsible for my virginity?”

“Yes, I do,” said Radcliffe.

A Big Week for Daniel Radcliffe on Screen and Stage

It may not be $476 million, but the Broadway revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” had its most profitable eight performances last week since beginning in February — earning $1,177,086 — at the same time that its star, Daniel Radcliffe, was setting movie box offices on fire in his final turn as the boy wizard.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” sold $168.6 million in tickets in North America alone over the weekend, and a total of $476 million worldwide. As moviegoers were lining up hours early to see the last Harry Potter film, fans of the character — and the actor — were among those filling the 1,424 seats in the Al Hirschfeld Theater during a week when Mr. Radcliffe’s face was saturating the media amid Pottermania. He was in all eight performances of “How to Succeed” last week.

Still, the musical revival has room to earn even more: Its total gross was 88 percent of its possible maximum gross  ($1.34 million) through full-price ticket sales. As for box-office records, the Al Hirschfeld’s biggest money maker remains “Elf,” the holiday season musical, which earned a high of $1.57 million during Christmas week in 2010.

Among Broadway plays, meanwhile, one of the few hits of the 2010-11 season — “The _________ With the Hat” — closed on Sunday with a sizable weekly gross of $870,024. With the closing of “Hat,” Broadway now has just three straight plays — “Jerusalem,” “Master Class,” and “War Horse.” What are the chances that “Jerusalem” (which grossed a modest $364,136 last week) or “Master Class” ($304,557 last week) now picks up more audience members who want to see a play rather than a musical? And will “War Horse” crack the $1 million ticket-sales club in a coming week, a rare feat for a play? It has come close, with a gross of $976,735 last week.

Over all, Broadway musicals and plays grossed a total of $21.3 million, roughly the same as the previous week, but  up from $19.4 million for the same week last summer. The five top-grossing shows, in order, were “Wicked,” “The Lion King,” “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” “The Book of Mormon,” and “How to Succeed.”
