Which Characters Will Be Killed Off In The New Harry Potter Film

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has proved to be the most anticipated release of this year. Its concept and layout, according to the book, has made the whole scene even more sensational and thrilling for the viewers.

The plot of the new film has been quite unexpected along with being fascinating on the other side of the picture. The killing of a major character in this sequel is the most interesting part of all. Albus Dumbledore’s role has been seized in the latter half of the story much to the bewilderment of the readers. This has proved to be quite an unimaginable situation in the book and as expected, it will be portrayed with much compassion of the director in the film.

Albus Dumbledore has been an important character throughout the prequels of Harry Potter series. From the first release to the latest one, he has been performing as a guide and a major helper for our protagonist, Harry Potter. His death in the penultimate has proved out to be the major source of thrill and adventure in the tale.

As Dumbledore and Harry embark on a journey to retrieve a possible Horcrux from a seaside cave, Hogwarts is left secured with stronger enchantments and Aurors patrolling the corridors. Before the Horcrux could be acquired from the stone basin, a potion had to be drunk.

The potion greatly weakens Dumbledore, weakening his reflexes and senses and making their return journey quite enduring and compelling. However, as soon as they reach Hogsmeade, a village near Hogwarts, they are greatly bewildered to spot the dark Mark above the Astronomy Tower.

With the pounding fear of possible deaths, both fly towards the Tower, removing the enchantments on the way, which Dumbledore had himself placed. On reaching the Tower, he immobilises Harry hidden under his Invisibility Cloak whilst he himself is ambushed and disarmed by Draco Malfoy. According to the orders of Lord Voldemort, Malfoy has been assigned with the objective of killing Dumbledore who by far seems to be much weak for compelling the evident danger.

He tries until his last breath to persuade Draco Malfoy to come by his side, assuring the protection of his family as a result. Nonetheless, the pounding roars of Death Eaters subdue him from what would have been a likely safe agreement. Becoming double minded, he lowers his wand unintentionally and unknowingly, but to the surprise of witnesses, Severus Snape makes appearance and completes the task on the behalf of Draco. Besides Dumbledore’s pleadings, Severus calmly performs the Killing Curse and escapes with the Death Eaters from Hogwarts.

The penultimate of the adventurous fiction series contains some new fabulous ideas from the author’s mind that have actually enhanced the stature of the whole concept to give it a new lineation for the readers. Apart from the revelation of the pasts and activities of its characters, she has side by side, increased the level of suspense and terror regarding others, just like the death of Dumbledore and unravelling of the double agent Severus Snape.

The release date for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is 15th July 2009.

Of Magic and Muggles: Should Christian Kids Read (or Watch) Harry Potter?

If you have children at home, you may remember a growing anticipation during the first weeks of July 2007. As a public librarian, I can certainly remember the excitement in my young readers.

You probably know what happened when the clock struck midnight on Friday, July 20. That’s right—the seventh (and final) installment in the phenomenal Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was unleashed on the reading world.

Shortly after the book’s release, filming began on the sixth Harry Potter movie. And last summer, on July 15, 2009, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in cinemas around the world.

The question that had many young readers sitting on the edge of their seats, anxiously waiting to read the final book in the popular series: does Harry live, or will he die?

And the question Christian parents have faced with each book or film release: should their kids be reading books and watching films about wizards, witches, and magic?

After some research, many parents find that there are simply no easy answers. As one Christian expert on Potter mania, Connie Neal, says: “It depends.”

The author of What’s a Christian to do with Harry Potter?, Neal says parents must use discernment when deciding whether or not to allow their kids to read the Harry Potter series. She has no problem with Christians reading secular novels, and she bases this on her reading of the Bible’s book of Daniel.

“He [Daniel] was not afraid to read literature that resounded in the hearts of the people with whom he lived,” writes Neal. “He used his familiarity with this pagan literature to reveal the true and living God.”

In BreakPoint commentary, Chuck Colson explains. In Babylon, “he [Daniel] was taught the language and literature of the pagan culture. He studied at a school that trained Babylon’s magicians, astrologers, and sorcerers. The actual practice of sorcery and astrology was, of course, forbidden by God. But Daniel studied it well to understand it.”

“Although the books are not Christ-centered and don’t promote Christianity, they still offer powerful lessons in compassion, courage, self-sacrifice, and doing the right thing,” says Lisa Jackson, writing for Christianity Today,

Colson agrees. “Not bad lessons in a self-centered world,” he says.

As many are quick to point out, the Harry Potter books are creative, insightful, and just plain fun. And for the Christian, they can be used as a springboard to further discussions about God, morals, and the supernatural world.

Yet there are legitimate concerns.

“The element of the supernatural has stirred up a cauldron of controversy,” writes journalist James N. Watkins. “Some Christians believe that the entire series violates both Old and New Testament commands to avoid witchcraft.”

He cites Deuteronomy 18:10-12: ”Let no one be found among you who…practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells…. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord….”

But is the magic in Harry Potter any different than the magic in C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe or J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings? Is the magic in Harry Potter and other fantasy novels the same magic that the Bible warns about?

Some Christian experts say no. Colson describes the Potter magic as “purely mechanical, as opposed to occultic,” and “not the witchcraft that the Bible condemns.”

Watkins agrees. J. K. Rowling’s world seems to be more “secular” than “occult.” Yet he concedes that the Potter series is very different from Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, “where the White Witch is undeniably evil and Aslan, the Christ-like lion, is purely good.” In Rowling’s world, the line gets blurred.

The biggest concern among Christians is that the series—marketed to children—presents witchcraft as something attractive. While the Hogwarts witchcraft does not contain elements of Wicca or nature worship, say the experts, it does make witchcraft seem innocent and fun. Critics are fearful of the influence these books and films could have on impressionable young minds.

Neal cautions parents that kids with an unhealthy interest in the occult should probably not read the books. The fairy-tale magic at Hogwarts seems innocent, but it could be dangerous if it became a gateway to interest in Wicca or an unhealthy fascination with the supernatural world.

John Andrew Murray, writing for Focus on the Family, agrees. “By disassociating magic and supernatural evil, it becomes possible to portray occult practices as good and healthy. This, in turn, opens the door for less discerning individuals to become confused about supernatural things,” he says.

But Lisa Jackson sides with Colson, Watkins, and others who believe that the world of wizards and magic created by Rowling is not the same kind of evil practices condemned in Scripture.

And Italian theologian Massimo Intovigne says, ”Magic is the main metaphor for life in fairy tales. If one should ban Harry Potter, one should also ban Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Pinocchio.” Al Menconi Ministries agrees, adding Snow White, The Wizard of Oz, and Shrek to the list. Menconi calls the magic of Harry Potter’s world “silly stuff.” Not witchcraft, but someone’s imagination.

This is not to minimize witchcraft. The Bible clearly condemns it. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 says, “Avoid every kind of evil.” Modern witchcraft is real and scary. It’s a seductive force that Christian parents must protect their children from. Christian parents definitely need to be aware of what their children are reading, watching, and listening to.

But if families choose to read the Harry Potter books or watch the movies together, the stories can provide a starting point for talking about the evils of the world. They can give families a chance to discuss how the power Harry uses to defeat evil is much different than the power we have from God.

Christian children need to understand that the Lord condemns witchcraft. They need to know that witchcraft is very real and evil and should be avoided—but that Harry Potter is simply a book.

The question really comes down to one thing: what is best for your child? “You know your child better than anyone else and only you can predict how he’ll be affected by these books,” says Jackson.

“With more than 325 million of them in print [2007 statistics], your kids will probably see them or hear others talk about them, and they’re probably going to read them anyway,” says Colson. He suggests that Christian parents use this occasion to teach their children to be discerning, like Daniel in the Bible.

Use the opportunity to have a dialogue with your kids about God and Jesus, love and sacrifice, morals, the supernatural, and other complex issues that are a very real part of youth culture today.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Movie Review

First let me start off that you should not be reading this if you don’t want the ending to Harry Potter spoiled. I know that this is a review of the movie but my biggest problems in my review lie in the fact that the movie deviates from the book. So please if you have not seen the movie or care if you know the ending please do not read on. Now that we have that spoiler warning out of the way I must give you an honest review of the movie.

Now I know that most movies deviate from the books but the Half Blood Prince deviated in all the wrong areas. I did not dislike the movie but I thought it could have been so much more. Please continue to read to see some of the major flaws I saw with this movie.

In the book there is a build up in climax for the end of the book. In the book this is the point where Harry and Dumbledore return to Hogwarts after retrieving what they thought was one of Voldemorts horcrux’s only to find a battle was ensuing between the Death Eaters, The Order of the Phoenix, and a few students.

While this large battle goes on Dumbledore and Harry are met by Malfoy. Before Harrycan draw his wand to strike Malfoy Dumbledore uses he wand to force Harry onto a wall rendering him useless. In this act Dumbledore loses his wand and is threatened by Malfoy.

In the movie however we meet a more cowardly Harry, in the movie Harry stays below watching nervously while Dumbledore is killed. My first major problem with the movie is the fact that they made Harry look like a coward that could not help fight. Whereas in the book Harry only stops from fighting for Dumbledore because he was restricted by a spell.

The next major problem I had with the movie was that they did not show a fight at Hogwarts, this is a major part of the book because the younger wizards begin to fight against the Death Eaters and really become the future of the wizarding community. However, once again this part was completely left.

My major gripe with the movie is that they managed to show over two hours of stupid love stories that I put up with in excitement for the end of the movie. However, the movie left me completely pissed off when they failed to show any actual fighting. All I can say at this point is I hope the next one is not this boring.

GMIPoll: Only One Third of Harry Potter Fans Say the Boy Wizard Will Live to a Ripe Old Age

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 17, 2007

The death of Harry Potter J. K. Rowlings has already admitted that two main characters will perish in the final installment of the Harry Potter series. Most speculation is centered squarely on Harry: Will he make it through the series unscathed, or will he meet his doom? That’s exactly what we asked Harry Potter readers. Only nine percent say Voldemort will kill the young hero. A little more than half (52 percent) say Potter sacrifices himself so Voldemort can be killed. Two percent say he falls off his broom and dies (maybe by a stray bludger?) A little over a third (34 percent) say Potter will survive the series and die of old age.

A few (1 percent) predict that Potter is immortal and never dies. The GMIPoll, powered by global market intelligence solutions provider GMI (Global Market Insite, Inc.), surveyed 509 Harry Potter readers online in the U.S. using GMI’s permission based GlobalTestMarket consumer panel. The survey was conducted from July 14th to 15th, 2007. All participants were paid for their opinions.

Is Albus Dumbledore really dead?

The mighty wizard Albus Dumbledore was killed at the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, book six in the series. The controversial ending had many scratching their heads. Did Potter’s mentor, one of the most powerful wizards in the series, just die? Even after Dumbledore’s funeral, only 25 percent of readers were convinced. The rest, a full 75 percent say Dumbledore is still alive.

Is Severus Snape evil incarnate or simply misunderstood?

Snape kills Dumbledore at the end of book six, but does that mean he’s loyal to the Death Eaters? We already know that most readers believe Dumbledore is still alive, but what does that mean for Snape? Is he a spy for the good guys? Forty-eight percent say he’s good, but more than half (52 percent) say Snape is evil.

Harry Potter Vs. Lord Voldemort

This seemed like an easy question: will Harry Potter kill his arch nemesis Lord Voldemort? Most (77 percent) say Potter will kill Voldemort, while 23 percent say Potter will fail in his quest.

Harry Potter 8: The Post-Hogwarts Years?

Rowling has maintained that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last in the seven-book series, but she is keeping the door open slightly. While she did say that another Potter book is unlikely, she also said “never say never” after a huge petition circulated over the internet called “Save Harry”. Most Potter readers polled (54 percent) say they believe Rowling when she says it’s strictly a seven-book series. Forty-six percent say you’ll see more of Harry after book seven. The Potter series made Rowlings the world’s first billionaire author, and we’ll have to wait and see if she can permanently walk away from the wildly popular franchise.

Searching for spoilers

Few books have been held under such tight pre-release security as those in the Harry Potter series, but leaks are inevitable. Already spoilers abound for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but how many want to know the ending before reading the book? Almost 75 percent say they would not read spoilers. The rest (26 percent) say if they haven’t already started scouring the internet, they soon will.

Buying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Even with all the hype surrounding Harry Potter, most people say they won’t get the book the day it comes out. Thirty-five percent say, “I’m in no hurry. I’ll pick up the book when I have time.” Twenty-five percent have pre-ordered the book and are having it mailed, which means it will likely get to them a day or two after the book goes on sale. Nine percent say they pre-ordered the book, but will wait in line and pick up the book opening day at 12:01 am sharp on July 21st, 2007. Fourteen percent say they will wait in line hoping to get a copy when the book goes on sale. Ten percent say they will borrow the book from a friend. Two percent say they will check it out at the library.

Those who are really excited about the book are not alone. Twenty-three percent of Harry Potter readers say they are so excited that they plan to start reading at 12:01 am the day the book goes on sale.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince’s Character Snape

Article by Allan Michael Taylor

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth part of the Harry Potter series was released on July 16, 2005. Now its movie is to be released on 15 July 2009, which has grown great elation and anxiety among the Potter followers. This part focuses on the past life of Lord Voldemort and the other foes of Harry Potter.

As always, Alan Rickman plays the character of Snape in the movie. He is the potions master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and head of Slytherin house, but he had been after the defense against the dark arts job for years. From the day Harry joined Hogwarts, Snape has held a ill feelings against him may be because of his father.

He and Harry’s father James Potter were class fellows but never got along. Afterwards James married Lily Evan, whom Snape was in love with. This evoked the hatred of Snape towards James. Snape has always been looking for an opportunity to avenge Harry and put him in detentions. Furthermore, the maltreatment by Snape to which Harry was subjected was to save Harry all along, even in the previous parts.

In the sixth book, Snape has quite a significant role. At the start of the year, he was assigned as the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher and was superceded by Horace Slughorn, a retired teacher of Hogwarts, as the potions master. Snape is one of the main baddies and was given the duty of protecting Draco Malfoy, a student and supporter of Voldemort.

In Slughorn’s class, Harry had no potions notebook. Consequently, he was given one by professor Slughorn. It was a book of an ex-student. It was cited in the book: “the property of Half Blood Prince”. There were many spells and beneficial tips in that book, which improved Harry’s performance in potions. In a fight with Draco, Harry used a lethal spell from the book, which injured Draco extremely. Snape came to the scene and cured Draco’s wounds. He then put Harry in detention just before his Quidditch match of the year, because of his insensible act and his reluctance to tell about the source of the spell.

Snape also assassinated Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. When Harry and the headmaster were at the school’s Astronomy tower, Draco abruptly arrives and plans to kill Dumbledore, as ordered by Voldemort, but couldn’t commit the murder himself. Then Snape arrives, along with other Death Eaters, and kills him. This was very upsetting for Harry as he was extremely connected to Dumbledore.

Angry at this act, Harry chases Snape and Draco to kill them, but Snape easily blocks his attacks. At this instant, Snape unveils himself as the Half Blood Prince. He reveals that he was the son of a muggle father Tobias and a pure-blood mother Eileen Prince.

Alan Rickman has already influenced several people by his detailed and perfect acting of the character Snape. Even in the previous parts he has defined the accurate character. So, it is evident that even in this movie he is back with the same ability.

Don’t miss Severus Snape and all the other characters in the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince at your local cinema from 15th July 2009.
