Google Books and Kindle to get 'Harry Potter' series | Signal

Amazon Kindle readers will not be left out of the “Harry Potter” series when it begins arriving in digital format for e-readers later this year.

Amazon officials told TechCrunch that it is working with Pottermore, the Web site set up to distribute the digital version of the books for e-readers.

Yesterday, Google announced it that it would be getting the “Harry Potter” e-books for its Google Books platform. Google said it is also working with Pottermore.

Some reports speculated based on the Google announcement that Amazon’s Kindle might be left in the cold with no access to Harry and his bevy of buddies from Hogwarts. But that is not the case.

Rowling has been clear from the start that she wants the books to be available on a wide range of e-reader platforms. But the digital versions of the books will be sold exclusively through Pottermore, which is set to debut in October. This means that consumers will have to purchase the book through the Pottermore site and then select the e-reader format they’d like to use.

Google said in its announcement that it’s also been selected as a “preferred third party payment platform for purchases made on Pottermore.com.” This means that shoppers will be able to pay using Google Checkout or a credit card.

Pottermore will not only offer the digital versions of the popular books, but it’s also a place where fans can interact with one another as well as participate in virtual events from the books. Fans will be able to visit virtual versions of Diagon Alley. And they’ll be able to mix potions, cast spells, and do all kinds of other activities to help their houses win the House Cup at Hogwarts, the fictional boarding school that Harry Potter attended in the series.

Amazon, which has said it now sells more e-books than printed books, is expected to introduce two new e-readers and a
tablet PC in the fall.

Google, Pottermore team up to provide fans unique ebook experience

When Pottermore officially launches in October of this year, Google will allow fans to make the most of their ebook experience.

“Pottermore and Google are teaming up to integrate Pottermore with a number of Google products and APIs. So when the series of Harry Potter ebooks launches on Pottermore.com in early October, these bestsellers will be available in the U.S. via the open Google eBooks platform. When you buy a Harry Potter ebook from Pottermore, you will be able to choose to keep it in your Google Books library in-the-cloud, as well as on other e-reading platforms.”

Google eBooks can be read on most devices and Google Checkout will be the preferred third-party payment for all purchases on Pottermore.com.

Additionally, expect more videos to be put on YouTube similar to J.K. Rowling’s big announcement on June 23.

Google Teams Up With J.K. Rowling's Pottermore

Pottermore, the free online experience set to keep the popularity of the Harry Potter franchise alive after the release of the books and movies, has joined forces with Google. Pottermore will be integrated with a number of Google products and APIs. Those who purchase a Harry Potter ebook or digital audiobook (available exclusively from Pottermore) will be able to store it in their Google Books library, meaning it can then be read on over 80 e-readers using Google’s app.

Google Checkout will be the preferred third-party payment platform for all of the purchases made on Pottermore. Also, YouTube will be used for future global video broadcasts, as it was for J.K. Rowling’s initial Pottermore announcement last month.

Google Will Sell Harry Potter eBooks

Google announced yesterday that they will be selling Harry Potter eBooks, when J.K. Rowling‘s collection hits the digital shelves this fall.

Inside Google Books explains: “Pottermore and Google are teaming up to integrate Pottermore with a number of Google products and APIs.

Last month, Rowling announced that Pottermore.com — a new online destination for Harry Potter — would be the exclusive eBookstore for digital audiobooks and eBooks of the Harry Potter series. The site, which launches in October, will also include new material from the author.

Rowling picks Google eBooks for online Harry Potter store | TG Daily

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has struck a deal with Google Books, allowing her novels to be released as e-books on the Google platform.

Last month, Rowling announced the Pottermore website, promising that it would soon include an online bookshop. Now, it’s been revealed that the books – which will be avaialble nowhere else – will be published in Google’s open eBooks format.

This means they can be accessed through the 80 or so ereaders that support the format, including Android or iOS devices, the Nook, and Sony readers, along with browsers and smartphone apps. While the Kindle is a glaring omission, Amazon says it’s working on that.

“Pottermore will be the exclusive place to buy Harry Potter ebooks and digital audiobooks,” says Larissa Fontaine of Google Books.

“You’ll be able to buy ebooks from the Pottermore Shop, push them to your Google Books library and store them alongside your other Google eBooks. Your other Google eBooks may be purchased from any of more than 250 independent booksellers or from Google directly.”

Google says that Google Checkout will be the preferred third party payment platform for all purchases made on Pottermore.com, and that in future the Pottermore team will use YouTube for global video broadcasts, as was done for the original Pottermore announcement in June.

The site‘s due to launch in October.
